Hailsham Town got back to top form with a convincing 5-1 home victory against Crowborough Athletic on Tuesday night.
Hailsham, who going into the game had yet to record a win at The Beaconsfield, ripped the visitors apart thanks to five-goals from star striker Danny Leach.
Both sides are struggling at the wrong end of the table after poor starts to the County League one season.
The Stringers struck quickly as Leach beat the offside trap, rounded the keeper and slotted home for 1-0.
Five minutes later, the marksman chased a lost cause wide on the right and curled home a delightful second.
Sam Saunders lashed one home for Crowborough from close range but Hailsham soon restored their two-goal lead.
On 43 minutes Leach clinched his hat-trick after great work by strike partner Shane Saunders.
After the interval Crowborough briefly rallied and forced Jenner into a fine save with an effort that flew towards the top corner. Leach netted his fourth from the penalty spot following a handball in the box much to the delight of the hardy supporters who braved the wind and rain.
Saunders was at his tenacious best all evening while Tristan Jarvis caused problems with his pace. It was the trickery of Jarvis which saw him fouled in the box and once again Leach made no mistake from the spot to claim his and Hailsham’s fifth.
Tonight (Friday) Hailsham will be hoping for more goals from their star striker Leach when they return to League action with a trip to highflying Hassocks.
