Eastbourne Borough boss Tommy Widdrington slammed the conditions his side had to contend with in their boxing day loss at Whitehawk.

Borough were beaten 2-0 on a torrid day on the Brighton coast but Widdrington was keen not to use the foul weather as an excuse for a flat display from his players. However, he was extremely concerned by the cleanliness of the changing rooms at the Enclosed Ground and described the conditions as “disgusting”.

“The conditions we had to get changed in were a complete joke,” he said.

They were not up to standard for the level we play at.

“There were rats running around outside the changing rooms. Rats as big as cats. It really isn’t a nice place to go at all.

“But It’s not an excuse for the way we played, we had to deal with it and it’s just how it is.”

Whitehawk will travel to Priory Lane for the reverse fixture on New Year’s Day.

Despite the difficult conditions at the Hawks’ home crowd, they’ve won just four of their 10 home games but will arrive in Eastbourne with the division’s second best record on the road.
