Mental strength is top on the list of attributes as Tommy Widdrington continues to try and improve his Eastbourne Borough squad.
Following a string of disheartening defeats - four of which have come courtesy of a late goal - Widdrington knows he must take action to rectify the problems that see Borough dwell in the Blue Square Bet relegation zone.
He said, “Obviously I’m disappointed with our league position but when you look at the last few games, they’ve all gone the same way and that’s no coincidence.
“Conceding so many late goals shows a lack of mental strength. We need those players who are stronger, mentally, and we are looking to bring some in.”
Widdrington, though, knows he must also pick up the players he does currently have in his ranks after their confidence continues to plummet with each defeat.
“I know it’s difficult for fans to see the turnaround between games because we play on a Saturday to Saturday basis, which means there’s a long time between matches.
“But then, that might be what we need.
“After Saturday’s heartbreaking defeat, we have players that are battered and bruised, mentally and physically, and need time to recover.
“Alan and I have been there before as players, so we understand.”
Borough will look to improve their fortunes and haul themselves out of the bottom three when they travel to AFC Hornchurch tomorrow.
