Eastbourne Borough kick-off their pre-season friendlies tomorrow (Saturday) with a short trip to The Oval to meet near neighbours Eastbourne United (3pm).

On Tuesday, July 15, an Eastbourne Borough XI travels to meet Crawley Down Gatwick while Saturday, July 19, they are away to former Skrill South rivals Tonbridge Angels (3pm).

Saturday, July 26 brings another match at Burgess Hill while on Wednesday, July 30, the Borough take part in a testimonial match at Leatherhead for former player Matt Smart. The friendlies end with a home match against Lewes on Saturday, August 2.

Manager Tommy Widdrington says a good pre-season can help his side get a good start in the league. They won every pre-season fixture last season and were unbeaten in their first four league matches.

The boss, however, is keen to concentrate on preparing and won’t be concerning himself too much with results.

“Results aren’t the main issue,” he said. “It’s all about getting fitness and concentration up.”
