Disappointment was as clear as day as Borough crashed out of the FA Cup to Ryman Premier side Hendon on Tuesday night.
Despite going a goal up in extra time, Borough failed to hold on and instead saw plucky Hendon turn the match on its head with two goals in the last 15 minutes to progress to the next round, despite being reduced to 10 men.
Widdrington said, “It looked to all intents and purposes that we’d be going through and we’re obviously hugely disappointed not to have.
“The lads were absolutely devastated after the match, some visibly so, and they will be hurting inside now.
“I know the lads care and they gave it their all in both matches.
“Tuesday night wasn’t the time to rant and rave at them though. We’ll meet up again on Friday and then address what went wrong.
“I think we did enough to win it on Saturday let alone on Tuesday but I have to take my hat off to Hendon and wish them luck in the next round.”
Hendon’s last minute winning strike was the third time this season a late goal has cost Borough dear.
Widdrington added, “We seem to be shooting ourselves in the foot a bit lately.
“Alan and I are big on fitness and concentration but it seems to be the concentration that’s letting us down at the moment.
“But now, we must to dust ourselves down and pick ourselves up ready to go again on Saturday.”
