Eastbourne Borough’s top goal scorer from last season, Elliott Charles, looks likely to be leave the club to join former side Dover Athletic, after the striker recently took part in their pre-season 3-1 win away at Whitstable Town.
Since the end of last season, the 23-year-old’s position at Priory Lane has been uncertain, and after the Sports recent friendly 1-0 win away at Hastings United, Tommy Widdrington didn’t hold out much hope that the Grenadian international would return to club.
“The main news on Elliott is that he is still not here,” said the Boro manager. “We have offered him a new contract and he’s decided not to take it. The offer is still on the table and he’s exercising the right to speak to other clubs.”
“There is only so long we can leave the door open for him during this pre-season window, but I believe that he is definitely one worth leaving the door open for.”
“He had a great season with us from Christmas onwards, scoring in nearly every other game. It’s not looking likely he’ll re-sign but I’ll never say never.”
After joining the Sports at Christmas, Charles proved popular with the fans and proved crucial to their battle against relegation, netting 14 goals in 26 appearances.
