Staines inflict home defeat on Eastbourne Borough

Eastbourne Borough manager Tommy Widdrington was left frustrated after his first game in charge at Priory Lane ended in defeat.

The visitors Staines, who are fighting along with Eastbourne to avoid relegation, took the lead after six minutes through Marc Charles-Smith after good work from Ali Chaaban and Adam Evritt.

Staines then sat back and defended well as Eastbourne lacked the quality to break them down.

Widdrington’s men worked hard through but failed to register a single shot on target.

After the match he said, “I could not fault our effort but perhaps we were not creative or intelligent enough with the use of the ball.”

Borough are 19th in the table just one point ahead of Staines who are 20th.
