Tommy Widdrington has inistsed his decision to name Ollie Rowe on the bench for Saturday’s FA Cup clash was based entirely on tactics.
The Eastbourne Borough manager raised a few eyebrows when he dropped the captain from the starting 11 for their meeting wth Waltham Abbey last weekend. Anwar Uddin returned from injury to partner new addition Michael Noone in central defence.
Widdrington said, “It was purely tactical.
“I base my decisions on how we play as a team and I’ve told all the players that their place in the starting line-up isn’t guaranteed. All I ask of them is that, when I do call upon them, they give me the best they can.”
Rowe came on as a substitute when the side were 2-1 down and helped them run out eventual 4-2 winners. Widdrington added, “Ollie came on and improved the game. He reacted excellently and that’s all I ask.”
