A late penalty from the returning Danny Leach gave Hailsham Town all three points on Tuesday night as they edged past 10-man Sidley United in a Sussex County League Division One clash.
Town manager Kenny McCreadie was delighted with the result, saying, “We were shaky at the back, but the longer the game went on, the better we got. We worked very hard for the result.”
The deadlock was broken in the 67th minute when Town’s top goalscorer, Leach converted a free-kick after strike partner Trevor McCreadie was brought down just outside the area.
The home side soon drew level as Kenny Pogue drilled home an equaliser, before Sidley were reduced to 10 men when Sam Willett was dismissed.
Both sides created chances, but Leach stole the points for Town and completed his brace when he converted a 96th minute penalty after McCreadie was once again fouled and adjudged to have been pulled back, this time in the box.
