Late goal habit is proving costly

Basingstoke’s late equaliser now means Borough have dropped a crucial nine points due to late goals so far this season.

The trend began in The Sports’ first game of the season away at Dorchester Town.

With the team leading, two late goals from the Dorset side saw Borough lose the game.

These lapses in concentration have also seen them drop valuable points against Weston-Super-Mare, where they conceded in the 91st minute to lose 3-2, as well as condecing a 91st minute goal at home to Sutton.

At league-leaders Salisbury City, Borough suffered more late heartbreak after an 85th minute goal from the home-side saw Borough lose 1-0.

Along with dropping points in the league, Borough’s habit of conceding late on saw the side suffer an expensive defeat as they crashed from the FA Cup in a replay after conceding two late goals against ten man, Ryman Premier side Hendon in the third qualifying round of the competition.

Further points were dropped against Tonbridge Angels after conceding an 81st minute goal.
