A second half volley from Simon Johnson ensured Eastbourne Borough recorded a fine away victory at Hayes and Yeading on Bank Holiday Monday.
Johnson’s second goal of the season arrived on the 56th minute and means Borough have now collected an impressive 10 points from their opening four matches of the season.
Unbeaten Borough made a few minor tweaks to the side that had performed so well in recent games against Tonbridge Angels and Ebbsfleet.
In came Charlie Gorman to the midfield as Frankie Raymond dropped to left back to replace Sam Cole while Manny Akokhia was preferred upfront for Darren Lok.
Borough played some tidy football in the first period but their possession was not rewarded with goals.
Aldred nearly opened the scoring on two minutes when his cross deceived home ‘keeper Jaimez-Ruiz but the Venezuelan stopper re-adjusted in time to tip over the bar.
On 10 minutes defender Ian Simpemba narrowly headed over from a Frankie Raymond corner before Gary Hart and Chris Shephard combined to tee-up Raymond who fired wide.
Craig Ross was called into action to deny Hayes midfielder Frank Merrifield but it proved a rare foray forward for Hayes.
Watts headed wide from another Raymond set-piece and Hart also angled a header just the wrong side of the upright.
The goal finally arrived on 51 minutes. A Raymond corner was headed back aross goal and Simon Johnson was on hand to volley crisply into the roof of the net.
Jake Reid had a decent run and shot for the home side that was well-saved by Ross and in the last 10 minutes Luke Medley steered an effort just wide from an accute angle. Hayes threw bodies forward in the final stages but the Borough defence held firm.
Borough almost nicked a second on the encounter when pacey substitute Elliot Levy crossed for fellow sub Darren Lok but the Borough striker just failed to connect.
