Former Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Jamie Smith has joined Eastbourne Borough until the end of the season from Blue Square Bet South rivals Dover Athletic.
The 22-year-old progressed through the youth ranks at Crystal Palace and was awarded a one-year contract in the summer of 2008.
A year later, Smith switched to the South coast and signed a one-year deal with Brighton after impressing during a trial with the club. He made his professional debut during their 7-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town just a fortnight after putting pen to paper.
The youngster signed a six-month contract extension in May 2011 but, after being released by the Seagulls, saw out the end of the 2011/12 campaign with Leyton Orient.
Smith joined up with Dover at the beginning of the current campaign after impressing Nicky Forster while on trial but has now decided to switch the Crabble Ground for Priory Lane in search of more first-team football.
He faced the Sports earlier this month when Dover made the trip to the South coast, notching a 3-0 win to continue their fine form this season.
Borough boss Tommy Widdrington said, “I was aware of Jamie during the close season just gone and was interested in bringing him here then, but he opted to go to Dover.
“Things have obviously not worked out for him in Kent but I am delighted that he has agreed to join us at Priory Lane for the rest of the season and look forward to working with him over the coming months.”
