Three of Eastbourne Borough’s first-team faces are serious doubts for their upcoming trip to Basingstoke Town after picking up injuries in their win over Eastleigh on Saturday.
Gary Hart, Chris Shephard and Simon Johnson were all forced to leave the field on Saturday after receiving knocks that subsequently rules them out of the clash in Hampshire this week.
Tommy Widdrington said, “It wasn’t precautionary to bring them off the field, all three of them were injured and are now serious doubts for Tuesday.”
On Tuesday, the Sports face a long trip to face a Basingstoke side that they played just six weeks ago in what was Borough’s single win in a run of eight league encounters.
And now, with Basingstoke struggling in the basement of the Blue Square Bet South and Borough having rocketed to 15th following two wins on the bounce, Widdrington’s side will be confident of doing the double over their midweek hosts.
Widdrington said, “Basingstoke are another team that I believe will come good. They have a lot of quality through the side and a very good coach there.
“We obviously played them not too long ago and won, but we’re not expecting an easy game.
“A midweek trip away to Basingstoke Town was never an attractive fixture but we are a team on the up and hopefully we can return with a similar result to when we played them at Priory Lane.”
On Saturday Widdrington’s men welcome Nicky Forster’s Dover side.
The Kent outfit are seventh in the league and are eyeing a play-off spot after their 1-0 win at Basingstoke last Saturday.
The two sides met earlier in the season and played out a hard fought 0-0 draw.
