With just two weeks to go before the start of the Conference South season, Eastbourne Borough throw wide their doors this weekend for the club’s Open Day.
Tomorrow (Saturday) from 10.30am, supporters are welcome to drop in at Priory Lane, watch the players in training, take a peek behind the scenes, and grill Tommy Widdrington in a Manager’s Q and A. New season tickets will be available, and you can even get back into football mode with a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich!
The open training session promises to be quite an eye-opener. Tommy and his staff will be putting the first team squad through a series of specialised fitness routines, plus ball work and phase-of-the-game practices, before finishing with something closer to a match situation. “A number of new signings will be on show,” said Widdrington, “so fans will have a chance to put faces to names.
I hope the morning will also give the supporters a flavour of the terrific spirit and team ethos that we are building for the new season. This is a great bunch of lads and all the vibes are positive.”
At the end of the session, fans young and old will have an opportunity to be photographed with their favourite players, and Tommy and senior players will be hosting a Penalty Shoot-out for junior supporters, with prizes and the chance to become a matchday mascot.
Meanwhile fans can catch a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes work of a busy football club, before looking in at the Q and A session which starts at about 12.45.
CIC chairman Paul Maynard will outline Borough’s plans off the field, and Widdrington will field questions from fans about the new season.
“It’s really important for the supporters to know they are a valued part of the club”, said Tommy. “
