Eastbourne Borough were denied victory in Dorchester thanks to a dogged defensive display from the home side.

Dorchester Town produced what was described as their best home performance of the season to secure a point against Tommy Widdrington’s men.

Twice Borough had the ball in the back of the home net but both of the efforts were ruled out by the match officials.

The draw moved Borough up to seventh in the Skrill South table but kept Dorchester rooted to the bottom of the league.

Striker Tom Derry, brought in on-loan from Gillingham last week, was included in the first team squad but he was on the bench alongside Darren Lok as Tony Garrod was selected to lead the attacking threat.

On nine minutes defender Ian Simpemba had the ball in the net following a well flighted freekick from impressive midfielder Charlie Gorman. Celebrations were soon cut short however as the assistant referee had his flag raised for offside.

Jack Deaman rattled the crossbar with a firm header on 15 minutes before Craig Ross was called into action and saved well from close range following a Dorchester counter attack.

That was as close as the hosts were to get all afternoon.

If Borough shaded the first half they dominated possession in the second but just could not force a way through a hardworking home defence.

Deaman had the best of the chances. He lofted one over the bar on 53 minutes from just eight yards and on 68 minutes the former Birmingham City youngster poked over following a mis-placed defensive header.

Elliot Levy was brought on for Garrod and Darren Lok, who came off the bench to score the winner in the 1-0 victory against Boreham Wood last week, replaced Lewis Tallack.

Borough continued to press forward as victory would have seen them jump into the top five.

Simpemba once again had the ball in the net with just minutes remaining but once again the eagle-eyed official spotted an offside in the midst of a goalmouth scramble and Borough were denied a victory, that on the balance of play, they probably deserved.
