Eastbourne Borough boss Tommy Widdrington remains hopeful of signing powerhouse striker Elliott Charles.
The 6ft 2” front runner has been training with the club and featured in their pre-season friendly with Lewes last week.
Charles, 24, became a huge favourite at Priory Lane during the 2012-13 season as he scored 18 goals in 27 matches after Widdrington snapped him up from Isthmian League Premier Division outfit Hendon.
Charles moved on to Dover Athletic last season but struggled to establish himself in a side that sealed promotion to the Conference Premier.
Charles is on holiday in Florida for the next two weeks and will miss the first three games of the new campaign.
Widdrington said, “The deal for Elliott is not dead in the water. His mobility, strength and power alongside Richard (Pacquette) makes us a very different animal to last year.
“He’s someone I’m very keen on, make no bones about it.”
Widdrington added, “I think he likes working with me and for this football club so, like I said, it is not dead in the water.”
