Big guns set for Newhaven

Borough boss Tommy Widdrington is likely to field a strong side for the Sussex Senior Cup tie against Newhaven tonight (Tuesday).

The bigger clubs sometimes use the competition to give match time to fringe players, but with one or two injuries Widdrington is fairly short on bodies at present.

And with bad weather curtailing the usual Monday morning training session, Tommy has ordered his full first team squad to report for duty at Priory Lane (kick-off 7.45) and he may decide to use the match as an opportunity for a full work-out.

Newhaven will not, in any case, be treated lightly. They are enjoying a good season in Division One of the Sussex County League and currently lie eighth in the table after a 3-1 victory at Lancing on Saturday.

With three Conference South games in the next ten days, Widdrington is understood to be considering bringing in at least one extra player between now and the weekend, to bolster his squad.

Elsewhere in the cup, Division One outfit Eastbourne United host Crowborough Athletic from the Southern Counties League.

Crwoborough finished fifth in County Division One last season before transferring leagues.

Hailsham Town, meanwhile, are looking to avoid an upset at Steyning Town.

The Division Two side beat Selsey in the last round and are looking for another scalp of a struggling Division One club.

Eastbourne Town face an away trip to Haywards Heath Town of Division Two in the RUR Charity Cup. The game will be played at St Francis Rangers.

All kick offs are 7.45pm.
