Eastbourne Borough stalwart Darren Baker has put his playing career on the backburner and taken up a coaching role at the club.
Baker, who has made an incredible 951 appearances for the Sports since making his debut 20 years ago, has spent the past few weeks on the treatment table after picking up a foot injury.
Now, it has been revealed that the 37-year-old has opted for a role off the pitch as he looks to develop his coaching career.
Borough boss Tommy Widdrington said, “Darren came to me and said that, after watching the team the past few games, he didn’t feel that he could perform to that level any more, especially after the problems he’s had with his foot.
“He’s not giving up playing completely and has taken up a role on the coaching staff, so he is still very much involved with the club.”
