The Hillians endured a miserable afternoon losing 5-1 at Wingate & Finchley and matters were made worse with a bad injury for Toby Pointing.

Pointing suffered a double break in his ankle in the 69th minute. He was operated on on Sunday evening to have a plate inserted across his angle.

Chapman said: “Toby has been a regular in our side since I took over three and a half years ago and is a massive part of our football club and when he wears the Burgess Hill colours always give 100% and is the most honest lad on and off the pitch and will be missed by us all for the rest of the season and we wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back in a Burgess Hill shirt next season.”

On the loss Chapman said :“I made two changes from the Enfield victory and in hindsight wished now that I hadn’t, we were poor from the first minute to the last.

“We looked disorganized and there was a real lack of energy in our team.

“It was our worst performance of the season but we must put it behind us and move on to try and get the points needed to survive in this league.”

Chapman also apologised to the travelling fans who were there on Saturday saying: “Lastly an apology to are loyal supporters who follow us everywhere, there’s not been many times I’ve felt we have let you down, but Saturday unfortunately we did.”

For the Saturday’s match Hill hope to have defender Andy Pearson back but Sam Gargan is still a short while away. Ollie Rowland is three weeks from making a return whilst Dan Perry needs a scan on his injury.

With the Hillians squad down to the bare bones Chapman is looking to further bolster his squad.

Hill last week signed forward James Fraser from Lewes and Chapman said of the former Bristol Rovers, Bognor and Eastbourne Borough player “James will add further quality to our squad. He has experience at this level.”
