Two late goals from Aaron Capon saw Eastbourne Town record victory against sixth placed Loxwood and maintain their position at the top of the Southern Combination Premier.

An early goal on three minutes from Oliver Moore gave the visitors the lead and they held on and frustrated Town up until 86 minutes when Capon struck the first of his two goals.

Town looked as though they were heading for a point until Capon swooped once again with 96 minutes on the clock.

Not for the first time this season, it was a remarkable victory from Town who have made a habit of scoring late winners in recent weeks. John Lambert’s men have now claimed last gasp wins against Horsham, Arundel and now Loxwood in the last five games.

Capon’s late salvo proved all the more crucial as title rivals Horsham won 5-0 at AFC Uckfield thanks to a hat-trick from Terry Dodd and two from Kieron Pamment.

Town remain two points above Horsahm on 78 points and both team have played 31 matches.

Town are back in action on Tuesday at Worthing United and then travel to Wick and Barnham next Saturday. On Bank Holiday Monday Eastbourne Town welcome in-form Eastbourne United to the Saffrons for a tasty looking local derby.

Horsham have no fixture in midweek and next Saturday they welcome Worthing United before their Bank Holiday Monday derby clash at Horsham YMCA.

Also on Saturday Hailsham Town were soundly beaten 7-1 by Horsham YMCA at Gorings Mead.

Daniel Sullivan opened the scoring on 27 minutes before Jack Divall hauled Hailsham back into the game with leveller just two minutes later. But from there it was all YMCA as a hat-trick from Luke Donaldson with further goals from Martin Smith and Philip Johnson.

Hailsham remain third from bottom and on Tuesday night they travel to Shoreham. On Saturday Broadbridge Heath visit the Beaconsfield and Bank Holiday Monday will see them up against AFC Uckfield also at the Beaconsfield.
