No pressure on us, says buoyant Bloor

Eastbourne Town v Dulwich Hamlets at The Saffrons January 7th 2012

Eastbourne Town v Dulwich Hamlets at The Saffrons January 7th 2012

EASTBOURNE Town boss Danny Bloor insists the pressure is all on Worthing heading into their local-derby clash this weekend.

Mid-table Eastbourne host Danny Bloor’s former club, who are pushing for a play-off spot, at The Saffrons on Saturday.

But Bloor (right) is more than happy to go into the match as underdogs.

“These are the types of games that I really enjoy. The bookmakers will have Worthing as favourite to win so there is absolutely no pressure on us. The favourites don’t always win though.”

Bloor has dismissed any claims that the added spice of being a local derby and a former club of his will make his team more determined to win.

“It’s the same as any other game. We don’t get double points for winning just because it’s against Worthing. We’ll treat it the same as any other team.

“If anything it’s nice because you know the opposition players and manager.”

The two teams head into the match on the back of very different circumstances: While Town haven’t played since their 0-0 draw with Ramsgate back in January, Worthing have managed to defy the weather and go ahead with their scheduled matches, one of which was midweek against Shoreham in the Brighton Charity Cup, which they won comfortably.

Eastbourne have very much fell victim to the frost over the past fortnight and only resumed training on grass earlier this week.

“It’s been hard,” Bloor said. “We’ve had to move indoors and just work on general fitness, but we have managed to go back onto the pitch again now.”

Town will be without Kai Bichard and Scott Kirkwood this weekend, as their suspensions still need to be served following the postponements.

Currently sitting in 14th in the Ryman Division One South, Eastbourne have little left to fight for as the season closes out.

“I know it’s cliché but we’ve got to take each game as it comes and just do as best we can to finish as high up the table as possible.”

Eastbourne’s two postponed fixtures against Bognor Regis Town and Walton Casuals have been rearranged for March, 13th and March, 20th respectively.
