Bloor looking forward to derby challenge

EASTBOURNE Town may be underdogs going into this weekend’s Sussex derby with high-flying Worthing, but manager Danny Bloor says his players are not afraid of anyone – least of all his former club.

Bloor enjoyed a spell at the Woodside Road helm and was quick to praise the Rebels’ current boss Chris White – particularly after the West Sussex outfit earned a hard-fought point at second place Whitehawk in one of only two Ryman League South games to escape the winter wipeout last Saturday.

However, the Town boss thinks form will go out the window when the two teams meet at The Saffrons on Saturday for what will be Eastbourne’s first match this since a 0-0 draw with Ramsgate at the tail end of January.

A tub-thumping Bloor told the Gazette, “Worthing will undoubtedly go into this game as favourites, but the favourites do not always win.

“We got a draw up there earlier in the season despite playing the majority of the game with ten men and that will certainly give us confidence.

“It sounds a cliche, but it will be 11 men against 11 and we are all really looking forward to getting on that pitch again. My players do not fear playing anyone.”

Eastbourne will have to do with suspended duo Scott Kirkwood and Kai Bichard but Bloor is confident his small squad can plug the gaps temporarily.

But the club have been buoyed by the news that all points gained from games involved Croydon have been whiped from the board.

“We haven’t played lately but we went up two places,” joked Bloor. “Perhaps I’ll get manager of the month.”
