Eastbourne Town’s visit to Walton & Hersham on Saturday resulted in a creditable 2-2 draw but the game was dour, drab and uninspiring.
Town boss, Danny Bloor, made two enforced changes, veteran Adam Davidson replacing the suspended Luke Denton at right fullback while wideman, Richard Greenfield, came in for Aaron Hopkinson.
Town were behind as early as the seventh minute as the experienced Graeme Purdy headed home Tom Hayden’s cross.
But the sending off of Walton & Hersham’s Matt Holliday for an alleged two footed tackle on Ethan Strevett turned the game in Town’s favour.
Town were fortunate not to concede a penalty when Davidson handled in the box, his misdemeanour being just out of the Referee’s line of sight. The very hostile home support continued to hurl abuse at the man in the middle as the game drifted towards half time.
Bloor introduced Lockyer for Strevett on the hour and pushed left back, Ross Sutton further forward.
His move paid handsome dividends as both were involved inTreleaven’s excellent equaliser on 72 minutes. From Lansdale’s pass, Lockyer played the ball wide to the overlapping Sutton. The big defender’s deep cross was met perfectly on the half volley by Treleaven, who gave Manderson no chance.
With 88 minutes played, Danny Curd put Town in front. Collecting a super pass from Treleaven, Curd advanced on goal and steadied himself before burying his shot past Manderson.
The 10-men of Walton & Hersham wouldn’t lie down and, in the third of five added minutes they equalised through their substitute, Connor French.
