Who can spark Boro’ into life?

Three games, four different strike pairings but still no goals for Eastbourne Borough as their 3-0 defeat to Bath on Tuesday night left boss Tommy Widdrington admitting his team had no spark.

The Sports have scored fewer goals than any other side in the Blue Square South so far this season and, after firing blanks in each of their last three matches, now average just one goal per game.

During the trio of games, Widdrington alternated strikers Elliott Charles, James Walker, Darren Lok and Kezie Ibe but to no avail. Now, he has revealed much of these selection choices are out of his control but has not ruled out bringing in another face up front to try and end the drought.

He said, “It doesn’t help we have a small squad but the decisions I make are not based on whether I like the player or not. Certain decisions are subject to circumstances that only I’m aware of.

“Things go on behind the scenes that the public, the fans nor the media are aware of and these things affect what players I put on the field.

“Looking at the team I put out on Tuesday, not all of that was down to my choice. We had some very important players missing and others that had to go off with knocks.

“I know what strike partnership works for us but unfortunately that is subject to circumstance. I am looking to try and freshen things up in terms of getting new players through the door but that’s not always an easy thing to do.

“We’re just looking for a spark, somewhere.”

The last face Widdrington brought to Priory Lane seemed to have that desired spark as Charles notched nine goals in eleven appearances.

Now though, it seems the former Hendon man may be out of the equation after picking up a knock in Sutton.
