Eastbourne Borough legend Austin swaps Priory Lane for the Saffrons

Former Eastbourne Borough skipper Ben Austin has signed for Eastbourne Town.

Austin, 35, has agreed a deal with Danny Bloor’s Ryman League Division One South outfit and will officially sign on the dotted line at the Saffrons tonight (Wednesday).

Austin joined Borough in 2000 from Eastbourne Town and was a key member of the Garry Wilson and Nick Greenwood era that saw them rise from the County League to the Blue Square Premier.

He made 467 appearances and scored 20 goals. He was voted player of the year on four occasions.

Austin said, “I was offered the chance to stay on but I felt I could not give the commitment Tommy (Widdrington) and Alan (Kimble) required. It is the right time to move on but I can look back on my time at Borough with a great deal of pride.”

Town boss Danny Bloor said, “We are delighted to arrange a deal to sign Ben. I have been a great admirer of his for a long time and he will be a tremendous asset to us on and off the pitch.”

Borough boss Widdrington added, “Ben acted like a true professional on my and Alan’s arrival at the club and we both wish him all the best and thank him for his input both on and off the field since arriving at the club.”
