Director Wilko looks to promotion for Hailsham cricketers

HAILSHAM Cricket Club is targeting promotion during the 2012 campaign.

Led by new captain Ciaran Treloar, the Western Road-based outfit is hoping to progress to the top flight of the East Sussex Cricket League.

Director of cricket Rob Wilkinson said, “We had a meeting with Ciaran and he said that’s what we’re setting out for. We’ve been a solid Division Two team for the last three years, but definitely the goal is promotion.”

Hailsham, who finished sixth last season, will begin the new campaign on Saturday at home to a Laughton side which romped away with Division Three in 2011.

“Ciaran’s already brought a new player with him, and hopefully some new ideas and a new voice will have a positive effect,” continued Wilkinson.

The seconds will begin their Division Six programme with a trip to Waldron having gone up for the last three years, while the thirds, who were also promoted last summer, will entertain their Mayfield counterparts.

Hailsham’s newly-formed fourth team will begin life in Division 13 at home to Bells Yew Green fourths. A winter recruitment drive has brought 12 new players of varying standards to the club.

A new electronic scoreboard has been fitted during the off season, a couple of new sponsors have come on board and there is encouraging news on the new two-bay net practice facility which was vandalised the weekend before last.

The club is, however, appealing for any businesses or members of the community that could help out with materials or sponsorship to replace the damaged practice area. Contact Wilkinson on 07980 146841.

Senior net practice sessions take place on Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 6pm
