TERRY Preston hit an impressive 88 for East Dean as their fixture with Forest Row was abandoned midway through.
Preston was promoted from 10th in the order to opening the innings after East Dean’s top order had failed in recent weeks.
He repaid the favour by setting East Dean on their way to a pleasing total with a superb combination of deft flicks and lusty drives to record his knock of 88.
He was ably supported by Piers Manktelow, who showed promise again before getting out for 22, and Neil Sands, chipping in with 25.
East Dean declared after 47 overs, settling on a score of 187-8. However, the score meant little after a brief shower took its toll on the wicket and play was abandoned with Forest Row on 34-2.
Each side took nine points from the match and East Dean remain top in East Sussex County League Division Four.
