Hailsham cricketers denied in final over Crowborough thriller

Hailsham 157,

Crowborough 158-6

Hailsham cricketers made the journey to Crowborough in the East Sussex League division two with a depleted bowling line up.

When skipper Matt Dawber won the toss he had no hesitation in asking to bat first on what looked a very dry and flat wicket.

Hailsham lost Jaz Walder (1) early on and then lost wickets at regular intervals throughout the whole innings - Rob Wilkinson (10), Matt Dawber (0) and Darren Moore (0).

Several batsmen got themselves settled at the crease but failed to push on and make that big score that would mould a decent total.

Mike Ambler (31) Rahul Chauhan (44) Cameron Ballard (37) and Stewart Kennedy (20).

Hailsham’s innings dried out towards the end and they were all out for 157, giving Crowborough two extra overs.

John Storey Tennant and Mart Archer opened up with the old ball but after six overs, with very little happening, the new cherry was called for.

Both bowled tidily but it wasn’t until the introduction of Chauhan that the ball started swinging around and causing problems.

On debut he claimed 2-21 from nine overs, well backed up by Bok Rahman 0-19 and Archer 1-39.

As the run rate crept up due to some tight bowling and solid fielding the wickets started to fall.

Storey-Tennant re-entered the attack and looked dangerous. Off the last over Crowborough needed 10 and secured a win with a six of the third to last ball to secure maximum points. Perry Winkles MOM: Rahul - a superb debut for Hailsham.
