Cricketers enjoy T20 Cup triumph against Bexhill

Eastbourne Cricketers enjoyed an eight run victory against Bexhill in round two of the Sussex Premier Cricket League Gray-Nicolls T20 Cup.

Eastbourne won the toss and elected to bat atthe Saffrons and posted a total of 162 for the loss of six wickets from their 20 overs.

Mark Tomsett opened the batting but was out for one but it was his opening partner Jacob Smith that got the run rate moving.

Smith cracked 41 from 31 balls while number three batsman Delray Rawlins was also in no mood to hang around as he fired30 from 14 deliveries.

Tom Gordon carried on the good work with 28 from 29 balls faced and Dan Wells contributed 27 from 21.

The not out batsmen were David Twine (15) and Albert Pennington (9). Bexhill’s Ethan Guest recorded the best bowling figures 2-24 while Joe Cox took 2-34 with Byron Smith and Sam Roberts each picking up a wicket.

Delray Rawlins was the cheif tormentor with the ball for Eastbourne as his 3-16 helped stiffle the Bexhill innings. Tom Gordon took 2-39 and there was also a wicket for Jacob Smith.

Bexhill’s Tom Powell top scored with 53 before he was clean bowled by Rawlins.

Eastbourne begin their division two league camapign next week as they welcome Lindfield to the Saffrons.

Skipper Tomsett said, “We have high hopes for the season. Promotion is our main aim and going up as champions would be the icing on the cake. It’s a tough league so we will have to play out best cricket at all times. There’s a few new faces around the club so the vibe is good at the moment.”

Eastbourne will be sponsored by IEP Financial for the 2016 season.
