United boss urges team to come out of blocks fast

BOSS Paul Daubeney is warning his Eastbourne United team not to let themselves get into a ‘false sense of security’ following their recent good run of form.

United have won seven out of their last eight league matches and are currently sitting at fourth in the Sussex County Football League Division Two.

But, following a three-week break from action due to weather postponements, Daubeney is wary of his team losing momentum ahead of their clash with Little Common this weekend.

“For the first postponement it was nice to have a little break, but with the second one it puts you back two or three steps.

“We need to come back and kick on straight away. You could look at the results and get complacent, get a false sense of security, but we can’t let that happen.

“We need to come out of the blocks straight away.”

Looking ahead, the United manager faces a similar situation in the months to come.

“We’ve got two matches and then a week off, and then another two matches before another week off. It’s easy to think we should just have a break but I’m going to try and arrange a few friendly games to keep us ticking over. We don’t want to lose momentum.”

Daubeney has no new injury concerns ahead of the clash with out-of-form Little Common and looks to field the same side as he did when his team last played in the league, against Mile Oak, back in January.

“The only injuries we’ve got are the long-term ones of Mark Goodwin and Nick Barden, who are both expected to be out for at least another month.

“Other than that we’ve got a full-strength squad. We returned to training on the pitch on Tuesday night, but only for phases of play to work on what we’re weakest at. We’re looking forward to getting back to action, kicking on and getting the three points.”
