Team of the month United are five star

Eastbourne United AFC secured their third Friday night success of the season after defeating division two basement side Saltdean United 5-0 at The Oval.

United, the Division Two team of the month for October, made three changes from the side that started at Rustington last Saturday as Jamie Bunn and Steve Stracey came into the starting XI along with Jack Divall making his first start for United as Mark Goodwin, Nick Barden and Drew Greenall made way

Kick off was delayed by 15 minutes due to severe traffic delays affecting the visitors, but when proceedings began it didn’t take United long to open the scoring.

A sublime half-volley from Pete Cooper on the edge of the box set United on their way.

On 30 minutes, perseverance from Jamie Bunn found Liam Baitup and the striker turned his marker to curl home a left-footed effort from just outside of the penalty area.

United started the second half well and with just two minutes played, Cooper and Baitup combined to extend the lead to 3-0 through a Baitup header.

United did get their fourth of the evening through a Shaun Lee strike that crept over the line despite the best efforts of the Saltdean defence.

Baitup missed a penalty and a chance for his third hat-trick of the season when his low spot kick was saved after a handball in the box.

Drew Grenall added the fifth after Cooper’s shot was saved.

There was still time for Cooper to miss United’s penalty of the evening after keeper Salvage saved well once again.

United move on to 24 points and into third place in division two.

Next up is a tough trip to Wick next Saturday for Paul Daubeney’s side.

Meanwhile, fans can watch every remaining home first and reserve team fixture this season for just £45 (Concessions £27) when purchasing a half-season ticket. visit: www.eastbourneunitedafc.co.uk
