Snow at Hailsham - but sunshine at Seaford

THERE were only a couple of games on involving County League sides at the weekend - one Division Three match at Newhaven and a Brighton Charity Cup game at Seaford.

Although much of East Sussex was still struggling to thaw out from the previous weekend’s snowfall, there wasn’t a flake in sight at The Crouch.

And despite a very cold Friday night, the pitch passed a morning inspection to enable this Brighton Charity Cup second round tie to go ahead.

A Seaford side which props up Division Two gave a decent account of itself against a Crowborough outfit which sits comfortably in mid-table in Division One.

Crowborough went ahead after 10 minutes but Seaford eventually levelled in the 52nd minute when John Summerbell nodded home after a corner.

Seaford looked well in the hunt at that stage but fell behind again in the 73rd minute - that goal eventually proving the match winner.

Hailsham Town’s scheduled visit from Wick in Sussex County League Division Two on Saturday was one of many to succumb to the freezing weather.

With temperatures rising this week, however, Hailsham will be hoping to return to action on Saturday when they are scheduled to visit Storrington.

The Stringers are in a comfortable second place at present - 17 points behind runaway leaders East Preston with three games in hand and eight ahead of third-placed Dorking Wanderers.
