Mac: Players owe club a performance after United debacle

Danny Leach is set to return to the Hailsham starting line-up

Danny Leach is set to return to the Hailsham starting line-up

Hailsham Town travel to Rustington on Saturday knowing a second place finish is all but theirs.

With a six point gap between them and third-place Dorking, the Stringers know only a freak series of results can prevent them from finishing as runners-up in Sussex County Football League Division Two.

However, manager Kenny McCreadie insists his players won’t be allowed to enjoy their outstanding season just yet.

McCreadie said, “The players owe us a response for the Eastbourne United game because that wasn’t good enough. If we play the way we can, we’ll win the game.”

Hailsham’s home fixture against Wick was called off last Saturday after the visiting side could not field a team, meaning the 1-0 defeat to Eastbourne United on Easter Monday remains their last outing.

McCreadie is set to welcome back Ashley Jarvis and Shane Saunders from injury after the pair featured for the reserves at the weekend.

With leading goalscorer Danny Leach also set to return McCreadie’s side will pose a real goal threat to the Rustington backline.

Although his players remain focused on their trip to The Recreation Ground, McCreadie admitted he has started to plan for the season ahead, “I had a meeting on Monday with the committee and I’ll certainly need to strengthen the squad because we’re back in division one next season.”

Despite a fantastic season for the Beaconfield outfit McCreadie admitted he’d probably need to bring in “four or five” new players.
