Brighton to take on United at new-look Oval Stadium
EASTBOURNE UNITED will welcome top flight opposition to the town next week to mark the opening of their new-look stadium.
Manager Gus Poyet will be bringing his Brighton & Hove Albion team to the Oval Stadium on July 25
During the summer, the ground has undergone a major £100,000 redevelopment to bring it up to Sussex County League standards.
Now, to mark the occasion, as well as part of both side’s pre-season preparations, the teams will meet for the mouthwatering fixture.
Kick-off for a match will be 7.45pm.
Meanwhile, Eastbourne Borough will be in action tonight (Tuesday) of the first of their pre-season friendlies.
League side Stevenage will be sending a team to Priory Lane for a match which manager Tommy Widdrington plans to use as an opportunity to try out a number of new players.
“I don’t think anyone will play the full 90 minutes tonight, but it’s all about staying injury-free and getting back to match fitness,” insisted the Borough boss.
“While the fixture wasn’t in our original plans, you can’t say no to hosting a League One club. It’s brilliant for us and it’s good to work our pre-season around game situations.”
The first team kick-off at 7.30pm, while the reserves will be in action against Bexhill at 6.30pm on an outside pitch.
