Eastbourne United AFC have signed former Brighton & Hove Albion youngster Callum Sheriff ahead of their 2012-13 County League division two campaign.

Sheriff, who was released by Championship side Albion in June after five-years at the club, was a regular in the Albion youth team and also spent the end of last season on loan at Bognor Regis Town in the Ryman South.

First team manager Paul Daubeney is delighted to have secured Callums’ signature.

He said, “I am pleased to add Callum to our squad for this season, he is a very highly rated defender.

“I have spoken to Callum many times over the summer break and I am delighted he has put pen to paper to ply his trade at The Oval.

“Callum plays mainly at centre back but is also very accomplished as a full back.

“We would like to welcome him to the squad and hope he enjoys his time here.”

In addition to the signing of Sheriff, many players from last season’s squad have already signed on to stay at The Oval ahead of their second season in the second tier of the County League.

Goalkeeper Adam Sargent has put pen to paper, along with the defensive pairing of Pete Featherstone and supporters’ player of the year Lee Jules.

Midfielders Jamie Bunn, Players’ player of the year Steve Stracey, Simon Catt, Gianluca Del-Gaudio and Mark Goodwin have also agreed to continue at United along with last seasons’ top goalscorer, Pete Cooper.
