Colwell issues rallying cry

Eastbourne Town boss Ady Colwell has issued a rallying cry to his players ahead of their crucial bottom-of-the-table clash at home to Chipstead today (Saturday).

Town have gone five games without a win and are languishing just above the relegation zone and Colwell is aware of the pressure on his team to win.

He said, "It's massively important for us to get three points. You only need to look at both teams' positions in the table to see that the losers will find themselves right at the bottom. We don't want them (Chipstead) to leapfrog us and we will fight for everything."

Town have taken just two points from a possible 15, but Colwell remains upbeat.

"We have not been playing badly and certainly don't deserve our points tally. We created enough opportunities to win those games," he continued.

His comments largely refer to his side's controversial 1-0 defeat to Chatham Town last week when they lost out to a quickly-taken free kick.

The Town boss was adamant his players were told to wait for the whistle and he questioned the referee's decision.

Colwell said, "We were asked to retreat, but as we did so, the ref told Chatham's players they could take the free kick. His inexperience cost us."

However, Colwell is confident his side can turn around their misfortune this weekend against their fellow strugglers.

"That elusive win will launch us and kick-start our season. At the moment, we're snatching at chances and becoming anxious.

"We just need to show a bit more maturity infront of goal this weekend," he added.

Meanwhile, Town are sweating on the fitness of Mark Goodwin, who tweaked his hamstring in a reserve fixture last week, and Liam Baitup, who is also carrying a hamstring injury.

Colwell has rated Goodwin as 50/50 for the game, but is more hopeful for Baitup.

The Town boss welcomes the timely return of captain Danny Simmonds, after missing the last two weeks on honeymoon.
