Eastbourne captain Mark Tomsett has praised star batsman Dominic Shepheard for his eye catching form this season.
Shepheard is third in the Premier Division batting rankings making 572 runs this season with an average of 38.13, helping Eastbourne to fifth place in in the league.
Captain Tomsett said, “He has been fantastic, we played against him last season for a lower league side. For someone from the lower leagues he has really stepped up well.
“He is one of the best batsman in the league.”
Shepheard moved to Eastbourne at the start of the season after impressing for Glynde and Beddingham for a few years.
Tomsett will hope his in-form batsman helps his team to victory against sixth placed Brighton and Hove on Saturday and possible a third place finish if results go their way.
The prospect of a potential third place finish with one game remaining in the Sussex Premier Division was unlikely at the start of the season.
Tomsett said, “It has been an unbelievable season so far, but we want to finish the season on a high. If we can get third that would be fantastic.”
Tomsett attributes a successful season, so far, down to team ethos.
“The culture has been great this season. Everyone is playing for one another, which has always been the case in previous years. Every game a different player has stepped up, that’s why we’ve won so many games this season.”
Eastbourne beat Hastings last weekend by two wickets, which proved to be their seventh win of the season, this time Devang Patel starred taking seven wickets.
After a successful season Eastbourne will look to keep the core of their players together for next season, in the hope of building on this season’s progress.
“We want to keep the team together and keep that culture going within the team.”
