Three players were sent off and Andy Atkin completed a hat-trick as Eastbourne Borough trounced Lewes 7-2 in tonight's Setanta Shield tie.
A disappointing Priory Lane crowd of below 600 certainly had full value for their money during a highly eventful 90 minutes.

The three dismissed players, one from Borough and two from Lewes, all went in the second half.

Nathan Crabb received a straight red for a two-footed tackle, Leon Legge went after receiving two yellows and, 10 minutes from time, Derek Duncan was dismissed for deliberate handball.

Adam Wilde put Borough ahead in the ninth minute following a low cross from Nathan Crabb.

In the 20th minute, Andy Ballard's long throw was headed home by Atkin.

Lewes made it 2-1 seven minutes later when Paul Booth scored from the penalty spot after Gary Holloway's shot had been handled by Ben Austin.

Atkin scored his second in the 32nd minute, heading home a Wilde free-kick.

It was 4-1 at 40 minutes when Lewes keeper Steve Williams punched Ballard's cross into his own net.

But there was no end to the drama as a Jay Lovett own goal made the half-time score 4-2.

Five minutes into the second half, Nathan Crabb went for his early bath following a two-footed tackle on Duncan.

Atkin completed his hat-trick in the 55th minute (5-2) and it was 10 men on both sides at 67 when former Hailsham Town player Legge blocked sub Allan Tait's path and received his second yellow card.

Number six came in the 85th minute when Duncan kept out Tait's shot with his hand and Tait himself converted the penalty.

Tait scored a seventh goal right on the final whistle.

Eastbourne Town's relegation fears worsened with a 1-0 defeat at Dulwich Hamlet.

Town put up a brave fight but a 59th minute goal from Sean Veneney sent Ady Colwell's men to their 11th Ryman league defeat in 18 games.
