Eastbourne Borough took another giant step towards Blue Square Premier soccer tonight with a 3-1 win over Hayes & Yeading which extended their lead over Lewes at the top of the South table to four points.
A Priory Lane crowd of 911 saw a double substitution in the second half make all the difference as Allan Tait and Matt Smart replaced Scott Ramsay and Robbie Kember.

A cracking goal by Pat Harding gave Borough the lead in the 32nd minute after a sweeping move involving Paul Armstrong, Jay Lovett and finally a Ramsay knock-down.

But on the stroke of half-time, the visitors drew level after Marc Pullan has mis-timed his challenge on Staforde Harmer and Hayes skipper Nevin Saroyh converted the penalty.

It was looking even after the interval until the subs took over.
In the 74th minute a long throw by Andy Ballard was flicked on by Andy Atkin and Smart nipped to make it 2-1 at the far post.

There was no holding Garry Wilson's men now and four minutes later a Tait run and cross from the left was finished by Atkin to put the game beyond doubt and leave Lewes with far more to do than Borough in the final eight games.

Borough entertain Bromley on Saturday before making the journey to Welling on Easter Monday.
