Eastbourne Borough returned to winning ways this afternoon when they won 4-0 against a Fisher Athletic team reduced to nine men for more than half the game.
With Lewes drawing 1-1 at Bath City, the gap between the leaders and Borough has been reduced to two points.

Fisher contributed to their own downfall before a disappointing crowd of 718 at Priory Lane.

In the 37th minute Keiran Murtagh was shown his second yellow card for a foul on Robbie Kember and four minutes later he was joined for an early bath by the speedy Andre McCollin who received his second yellow after Jay Lovett had been left upended.

Fisher's numbers might even been fewer with keeper Simon Overland clattering into Andy Atkin whose header came off the post and striker Jeff Goulding luckily getting away with a yellow card for pushing Andy Ballard in the face.

It was a dream return for Ballard who was drafted into the team for the suspended Darren Baker. Ballard's huge throw from the right in the seventh minute was headed home by Atkin for the opening Borough goal.

How the match might have gone if Fisher had remained at 11 men is anyone's guess as the visitors' speedy front men posed a number of problems for Borough's defence although Lee Hook was never seriously tested.

Home fans expecting a flood of goals against nine men at the start of the second half were disappointed.

Borough struggled to find a way through and it was not until Nathan Crabb replaced a limping Atkin that the second goal came.

in the 65th minute Robbie Kember's ball into the box was knocked down by Scott Ramsay for the younger Crabb to hook past Overland from close range.

It was 3-0 in the 75th minute when the keeper could only parry Matt Crabb's fierce drive and Pat Harding provided the perfect finish.

It was fitting that Ballard should wind up the scoring in the 90th minute when he superbly headed home Matt Crabb's corner from the left.

There were bad news, however, from the Ryman League where Eastbourne Town failed to repeat their recent good form, going down 3-1 at Walton.

It was no better in the County League with Eastbourne United AFC losing 3-2 at Wick and Hailsham Town crashing 3-0 at home to Worthing United.
