A VOLUNTEER from Seaford who went to the aid of a man who had suffered an epileptic fit has been recognised for his bravery.
Richard Alden, of Surrey Road, was awarded the Chief Executive's Commendation by the South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Trust at a special awards ceremony that took place earlier this month.

The 35-year-old, who is a community responder, was c
alled to the man's home earlier this year.

He said, "He had had a fall and was lying slumped with his head and neck very awkwardly forced forward.

"He was conscious but his breathing was partially obstructed. I had to move him gently to open up his airways and give him oxygen."

The paramedics arrived at the scene about 15 minutes later.

The ambulance service said Mr Alden's actions saved the man's life.
Richard said, "It is lovely to be recognised. I think the responders is a fantastic organisation."

Community responders are volunteers who are medically trained and are often first on the scene during an emergency and carry out life saving work.

Tom Pullen, Community First Responder team leader for Seaford, said, "It is one of those things, you are there, you are on your own and it is a decision you have to make.

"Richard used his common sense and knowledge and he had to make the decision.

"The outcome was good and he definitely deserves the award for what he did."
