STAFF at the Moon of India restaurant in Sutton Road, Seaford, reported to police that a man who ordered and ate an Indian mealcosting nearly £36 had no money to pay for it.
The man, aged 74 and from Eastbourne, was arrested and taken into custody. He was later released and bailed to return to the Eastbourne Custody Centre at the end of October.
POLICE are investigating a report from a member of the public that a locked garage was broken into in Crouch Gardens.
Several items were stolen including a yellow hedge trimmer valued at £350, and a smaller black hedge trimmer valued at £200. Both
are motorised and fairly distinctive.
Police are studying CCTV footage from nearby premises. Anyone with information about should contact PC Mountford-Laker at Newhaven Police station on 0845 60 70 999.

n POLICE were called to the Trek nightclub in Seaford on Saturday after door staff searched a man and found a quantity of what is suspected of being class A drugs on him.
A 21-year-old from Peacehaven was arrested and taken to Eastbourne, where he was later bailed to return to the custody unit at the end of October.
PC Martin Theelke said, "Sussex Police work closely with the management and staff at the Trek Club, and anyone found in possession of drugs will be treated robustly, and face the possibility of not only prosecution, but also being banned from licensed premises in Seaford."

n POLICE are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen damage being caused to a new Peugeot 308 car parked in Avondale Road, Seaford, during the weekend of September 27-29.
The vehicle was scratched down the driver's door.

n POLICE officers on patrol noticed a vehicle that was being driven very slowly on the A259 in Seaford.
The driver was stopped in Richington Way where he failed a roadside breath test.
At Eastbourne custody centre he was found to be over the legal limit and charged with driving whilst over the limit.
A 60-year-old man from Seaford is due to appear in court on October 15.

n Sussex Police received several calls from members of the public on Thursday about a tree that came down across the A259 just west of the Exeat bridge near Seaford. The tree blocked the eastbound carriageway.
Officers attending called for the county's highways department to assist with the tree's removal as a priority.
After about an hour, the owner of the premises from which the tree had fallen managed to remove it.
Officers directed traffic during the incident and there were no accidents.
