A SEAFORD artist who held a popular exhibition at the Crypt Gallery has said visitors responses have shown how important the venue is to the town.
Jo Allen showcased On Seaford Bay for two weeks which included three sculptures by the award-winning artist, along with poetry, photography and a world class laser and sound installation by media personality Luke Smith.
During the exhibition Seaford MP Norman Baker was a guest of honour who praised the pieces of art and the environmental aspects of the display.
Jo said, "It may or may not have been environmental issues that attracted so many people to this show.
"But it can't be denied that the response proves just how important both the Crypt Gallery and the arts are to the people of Seaford."
Mr Smith added, "We attempted to engage all the senses. This was a ground breaking artistic endeavour and we are very proud of the response we received."
Both Jo and Luke agreed that part of the reason for this tremendous turn out was their ability to advertise its existence in the windows of the old Citizen's Advice Bureau in Church Street.
Smith added, "If the Crypt is to continue with any strength it really needs to have a shop frontage. So many people just don't know it's there."
The pair are currently in talks with a major marketing company to transfer the exhibition to London later in the year.
In the meantime, the sculptures, poetry and photography (though sadly not the laser experience) can be seen at the artist's home during Lewes District Council's Artwave festival. For further information go to www.artwavefestival.org or call Jo Allen on 07778 301823.
