A WISH list of proposals to boost cycling provision in Seaford is to go under the spotlight this month.
Members of Cycle Seahaven have been asked to put forward ideas in a bid for them to be included in the county's transport plan.
In recent months Councillor Eddie Collict, a keen cyclist, warned that a cycle route was urgently needed to prevent rider
s using the A259 road between Exceat and the entry to Seaford from coming to harm.
One cyclist has already been killed on that stretch of road and Cllr Collict said he was lucky to be alive after toppling into the road during a cycle ride.
One of the issues that has been highlighted includes allowing cyclists on the trail from Chyngton Lane to the Golden Galleon car park so they can avoid using the road.
Other ideas include introducing cycle routes to schools with 20mph speed limits in certain roads along with cycle lanes. There is also the hope that cycle lanes could be introduced in certain areas of the town including Edinburgh Road, Beacon Road and Cradle Hill Road.
Andy Lock, chairman of Cycle Seahaven, said, "We were fortunate enough to have a meeting with Seaford Town Council (STC) and East Sussex transport director Rupert Clubb to discuss these issues and it was Mr Clubb's suggestion that we present to STC the club's vision for going forward for cycling in Seaford.
"We hope we get people that are also against cycling - we don't want to be blinkered by it - and we want to work with people.
"There is a desperate need for cycling provision and we need to ensure that our kids can cycle to school safely."
The vision will be discussed by members of the club at Cycle Seahaven's Extraordinary General Meeting at the Wellington Hotel on November 25 at 8pm. Members of the public are also invited to attend.
All proposals will be collated and presented as short, medium and long-term solutions for the Local Transport Plan (LTP).
Seaford's LTP will then be taken on board by the East Sussex planning office for incorporation into the county's transport plan.
A spokesperson for East Sussex County Council said, "One of our officers will be attending the meeting between Seaford Town Council and Cycle Seahaven to hear their proposed vision for cycling in and around Seaford.
"We have already met with Cycle Seahaven and will be meeting them again in the near future to talk about their views on cycling, which will help inform the development of our third Local Transport Plan."
