CADETS from Newhaven and Seaford are supporting the launch of 'Cadet 150' which marks the 150th anniversary of the Cadet Force Movement.
The team, representing the Sea Cadets, the Army Cadet Force, the Air Training Corps and the Combined Cadet Force, backed the move and the national launch which was held at Buckingham Palace last Wednesday.
Her Majesty The Queen is Patron of 'Cadet150', which sees a programme of more than 150 events taking place all over the country throughout 2010 all reflecting the spirit of fun, excitement, adventure and community service at the heart of the cadet movement.
Together with His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, she received 26 specially-selected Cadet Ambassadors at Buckingham Palace last week.
Colonel Amédée Miéville, deputy chief executive of the South East Reserve Forces & Cadets Association, said, "We are delighted to be celebrating 150 years of this fantastic movement.
"The Cadet Forces offer such great opportunities for thousands of young people across the UK. In Sussex members of the Cadet Movement are coming together to celebrate this anniversary with county displays at Goodwood, Shoreham, Eastbourne and a cadet jamboree at Crowborough.
"The programme will culminate in a service in Chichester Cathedral and a spectacular parade through the city's streets in November. Every single young cadet in the county will have cause to remember this year and will personally have the opportunity to take part in one or more of these exciting events. The Cadet Movement offers wonderful opportunities for young people to have fun and stretch themselves: 'Cadet 150' will offer them a unique chance to show the public just what they can do and how they can 'Live the Adventure'."
Sea Cadet Roisin McElroy, 14, from Seaford who attends the town's community college added, "I joined two years ago and have made some great new friends and had some fantastic opportunities."
As part of 'Cadet 150' a number of events will be taking place across the world including treks and expeditions in Nigeria and the Himalayas and on July 6 more than 1,500 cadets drawn from across the UK will participate in a royal review at Buckingham Palace as the year's central commemorative event.
