AS a landlubber and RNLI supporter, I am always amazed when sailors run aground in local waters; and why walkers get cut off by rising tides around downland cliffs.
One would have thought navigation would be at the top of most boat-owners’ list of things to master before setting sail.
At Cow Gap, there are signs that warn walkers about venturing westwards along the beach (when the tide is out); yet it seems people still ignore them.
Time perhaps for both Eastbourne Borough Council and the Downs National Park Authority to make all visitors aware of the dangers awaiting them if they intend to walk along the beaches at Beachy Head and beyond.
A R EDWARDS,
