THERE are a lot of children in Eastbourne and they look loved and cared for. But the town centre looks content to be a place of genteel but faded retirement.
With sun and sea Eastbourne reminds me not a little of my California birthplace.
Where are the 21st century architectural gems and the workplace homes and the stimulating cafes for young entrepreneurs and budding technocrats?
There is nowhere for them in a place that geographically is ideal.
Cheaper and close to London with sun, sea and healthy air.
Fail to create a future and councillors will have to accept early retirement, but worse, a dull place to live.
And there is no reason for Eastbourne to be dull. Why is it?
