What next, a gas mask?

I recently visited a garage in Eastbourne to buy petrol. It was a hot day and I left the car door open as I filled the petrol tank.

I then heard an announcement being beamed across the forecourt asking that “a front door be closed”.

Eventually for the second time I realise it was me they were talking to and it was about my car door.

I closed the door and went to pay the bill and asked why ?

I was told that I might have a problem with fumes in my car, and that it was company health and safety policy and really there to protect young people. Have we all gone mad ?

Will I need to wear my gas mask next time ?
