Volunteers always welcome at CAB

IN response to the letter from Mr Aviss published in the Gazette of January 19, I would like to point out a few facts about the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB).

Firstly I’m sorry that he was unable to get through on the phone.

We are experiencing a very high demand from the public at present and we have a limited team of volunteers available to take calls.

I hope we were able to assist you by calling you back. We now deal with most enquiries by phone and offer a drop in service for clients who would not be able to do this.

We direct a lot of clients to www.adviceguide.org.uk which can give advice on a lot of simple enquiries.

Eastbourne CAB, just like all CABs, is a local charity which relies on grants and donations to provide a service to the community.

It is not a government department and it is run on a very small budget, despite receiving generous support from Eastbourne Borough Council.

We have a small but very hard-working team of volunteers and we always welcome more.

We anticipate that the demand for our services will increase whilst some of our funding sources will stop, including legal aid.

We hope that the public will continue to support important charities such as CABx which provide essential support for local communities.
