Top programme of big band music

ON Sunday an another excellent concert by the Paul Davis Big Band - that’s Paul who lives in Eastbourne and who has for the last 10 years put on an excellent programme of Big Band music. ‘Dorsey, Goodman, Ellington, Basie and of course our own Ted Heath.

The band of top performers included two original members of the Heath band, trumpeter Ronnie Hughes who was 87 only weeks ago and trombonist Bob Geldorf who both played in the Heath band in the 1950s.

Paul is well known in the town as a pianist but also plays the trombone having started his musical career as a 16-year-old bandboy in the Royal Artillery band in Woolwich.

I am sure Paul will be back again next year and is a cert for those who love that past but not forgotten Big Band era.
